Prudy's Problem story



This week, students will continue to explore the humorous and imaginative story Prudy’s Problem and How She Solved It, focusing on reading comprehension, identifying key story elements, and understanding the central message. Grammar instruction will emphasize recognizing and forming irregular plural nouns. Students will also practice using Week 15 vocabulary words from the Communication Book in context to strengthen language acquisition.

Reading & Comprehension

  • Understand the main idea and supporting details of Prudy’s Problem

  • Identify characters, setting, problem, and solution

  • Discuss the theme and how Prudy creatively solved her problem

  • Develop inferencing and sequencing skills through guided reading questions

Conventions  in RWN: Irregular Plural Nouns

  • Recognize and use irregular plural nouns (e.g., mice, feet, children)

  • Compare regular and irregular plural forms

  • Apply knowledge through practice exercises and sentence writing activities

Vocabulary – Week 15 Communication Book Words

  • Introduce and review all  week 15 words from the Communication Book

  • Use visual aids and sentence-building activities to support understanding

  • Reinforce word recognition, meaning, and correct usage in oral and written forms

This upcoming week ahead, students will continue their journey through the story Carl the Complainer , which will help reinforce key reading skills, including identifying cause and effect relationships. In addition to reading, we will focus on grammar lessons in our Reading and Writing Notebooks (RWNB), covering pronouns and multiple-meaning words that can function as both nouns and verbs. Week 16 will also mark an important milestone as students take their final Reading Street 2.2  unit test of the semester.
