Week 4 Kumak's Fish
In Week 4, we will begin a new story, Kumak's Fish, from Reading Street 3.1. Our word work for the week will consist of vocabulary and spelling practice, along with additional literacy skills.
Word Work:
- Vocabulary Words (1-6):The words for #1-6, students are encouraged to learn the definition and usage by filling in the blank sentences. Students will also need to read and understand the vocabulary passage on page 97. They should be prepared to answer comprehension questions, focusing on the "who, what, where, when, and why" of the passage.
- Spelling Words (7-24):Students will practice spelling words and their base forms, with a focus on how the spelling changes when adding endings such as:
- -ed (past tense)
- -ing (present progressive, ongoing action)
- -er (comparative)
- -est (superlative)
Quiz Preparation:
For the Week 4 quiz, students will need to:
- Understand the base words and their changes with suffixes.
- Identify the correct usage of spelling endings for both tense and comparison.
Additional Skills:
This week, students will also practice:
- Using a Glossary: Learning how to find and understand word definitions.
- Alphabetizing Words: Practicing the skill of ordering words alphabetically.
These components will form the foundation of our study for Week 4. Please ensure students review vocabulary and spelling at home to be well-prepared for the quiz and class activities.
