Dear Parents,
To assist your child in recalling the stories we've read and writing their homework summary, here are the key highlights from each story. Encourage your child to use these points as a guide to write their own summary in 7-10 sentences:
1. The First Tortilla summary
- Setting: A small village in Mexico suffering from drought.
- Main Character: A young girl named Jade.
- Key Events: Jade embarks on a journey to the top of the mountain to ask the Mountain Spirit for rain. Along the way, she faces obstacles but never gives up. The Mountain Spirit helps her by sending rain, and she brings corn back to her village, leading to the creation of the first tortilla.
2. Firefighter! summary
- Setting: A fire station and the local community.
- Main Characters: Liz, Dan, Anthony, and Chief Miller
- Key Events: The story describes a firefighter's duties, from responding to emergency calls to helping people and putting out fires. The children learn how firefighters prepare and train to keep everyone safe, showing the teamwork and dedication required for the job.
3. Carl the Complainer summary
- Setting: A neighborhood.
- Main Character: Carl, a boy who loves to complain about everything.
- Key Events: Carl complains about how early the park closes and chooses to begin a petition to get the park to stay open later. Carl and Dale need many signatures to get the council to pass the idea. The story explains how he does it.
Encourage your child to focus on the main characters, setting, and important events of the story. They can also add their thoughts about what they liked or learned from the story.
Thank you for your continued support in your child's learning!
