A2 Unit Test Study Guide - "Soil"

1. Vocabulary (RWN p. 314)

Study the following words and their definitions:

  • Grains
  • Materials
  • Particles
  • Seep
  • Substances
  • Textures

 Be sure to understand how each word relates to soil and its components.


2. Spelling Words (RWN p. 322)

Practice the spelling of words. Focus on words with diphthongs (ou, ow, oi, oy).

Use the words in sentences to help with spelling and understanding their meaning in context.


3. Suffixes and Their Meanings (RWN p. 318)

Review these suffixes and understand their meanings:

  • -ful (full of)
  • -less (without)
  • -er (one who)

 Be able to identify these suffixes in words and explain how they change the meaning of the base word.


4. Comparative and Superlative Adjectives (RWN p. 319)

Understand how to form comparatives (e.g., bigger) and superlatives (e.g., biggest).

 Practice using these in sentences and know when to add -er or -est, and when to use more or most.


5. Facts and Opinions (RWN p. 323)

Be able to distinguish between facts (statements that can be proven true) and opinions (statements based on personal beliefs or feelings).

 Practice identifying facts and opinions from the story "Soil."


6. Reading and Comprehension (Reading Street - "Soil")

Review your highlighted key sentences by rereading the story "Soil" in Reading Street. Understand the main ideas, details, and what the text teaches about soil.

 Focus on understanding the materials found in soil and their importance in the environment.
